Tip 28 - Freeze the moment, with water splash and more

You possibly noticed from the last 2 tips, I’ve been talking about capturing that split second of a quick action. It’s quick and easy, for both you and your children. All you need is to use high shutter speed to capture a series of action shots within a few seconds.

You have a higher chance to capture the most candid shots and that high energy, instead of awkward poses and unnatural looks. Here’s a list of props that can help you keep your kids engaged in this exercise:

👉Get a water splash

Family travel, Kalua Beach, Oahu, Hawaii

👉Jump or run over a puddle

Family travel, Zion National Park

👉Chase or burst bubbles

Family travel, Barcelona, Spain

👉Fly a paper airplane

Family travel, Saqsaywaman, Peru

👉Throw a sand bag

Family travel, San Francisco

👉Throw a balloon

Family Travel, Mendoza, Argentina

👉Throw a ball

👉Throw flower pedals or leaves

👉Blow snow flakes (not the exact example below but similar)

Family travel, Olympic National Park

👉Blow dandelions

👉Fly on a swing

If you photograph older children or adults, perhaps they can jump into a pool, do a cartwheel flip, skate, ski, ride a bike, play sports etc. The list could go on and on…

The point here is not to force the action, but to go natural along with what your subjects enjoy doing and whatever is available at the scene. The more they are engaged with their activities, the more photo opportunities you’ll get, the more beautiful shots you’ll capture.
